# Mono-color Editorial Design

Turn a theme, a photo, or a short brief into a restrained single-ink editorial visual: poster, social image, cover, or zine page. This is not "make the photo black and white." It is a full editorial system with one ink, deliberate whitespace, strong type, and vintage print texture.

## When to use

Use this when the user wants a poster, event flyer, social graphic, brand exploration, playlist or podcast cover, magazine header, zine page, or a personal photo recast as print. Skip it for photoreal product shots, full-color brand systems, or anything that needs many inks.

## Design rules (always)

Follow these constraints on every image. Do not "improve" them by adding extra color.

1. Default to one ink color on a quiet paper ground. A second ink is allowed only as a tight overprint accent, never a rainbow.
2. Leave large, intentional margins. Crowding is a failure.
3. Type is the structure. Pair a strong display face with a quieter text face. Hierarchy must read from across a room: title, then one supporting line, then optional small meta (date, place, URL).
4. Print texture is part of the language: halftone dots, paper grain, slight misregistration, and ink density variation. Keep it tasteful, not distressed-for-its-own-sake.
5. Photo, type, and empty space are one composition. Recrop and rebalance. Do not drop a filter on an unedited snapshot and call it done.

Build a tiny design system before drawing: ink color (name it), paper color, type pairing, one or two geometric components (rule, block, circle), and a crop language. Reuse that system if the user asks for a set.

## Inputs

Accept any mix of: a theme in one sentence, event details (what, when, where), a reference photo, a brand adjective ("quiet", "civic", "late-night"), and the output size (poster, 4:5 social, square, landscape cover). If size is missing, default to a portrait poster.

Ask at most one clarifying question when the brief is empty. Otherwise decide and produce.

## Steps

1. Write a one-line concept (mood + subject).
2. Lock the system: ink, paper, type, texture, grid.
3. Compose. Put the title on a clear axis. Give the image a job (background field, cropped figure, or editorial still), not a collage dump.
4. Generate the visual. If a photo was uploaded, translate it into the print language rather than pasting it on top.
5. Deliver the image plus a short spec: ink, type, and where it should be used. Offer two variants only if the first composition is ambiguous (for example, type-led vs image-led).

## Good output

The result should look like a printed editorial piece, not a generic AI poster. One ink. Real margins. Type you could typeset. Texture that survives a zoom. A caption the user could hand to a printer.
